The Hawaiian green sea turtle (honu) lives close to shore on all the Hawaiian Islands and is seen often by thousands of divers and snorkelers on the reef. The honu is believed to be a guardian of the Hawaiian people, it is both loved and revered in ancient Hawaiian culture. This design is of a smiling sea turtle wearing a flower lei around its neck. It consists of more than 30 individual pieces and is generally made with Rosewood (Reddish Brown), Pheasant Wood (Gray), Ash Wood (White). The scales of the turtle are created by with a wood burning tool.
We offer this design in various options such as wall décor, ornaments, magnets and puzzle boxes. The wall décor comes in sizes medium and large.
Each piece of wood is meticulously hand contoured and carefully assembled to create multi-dimensional artwork. The beauty and uniqueness of our artwork comes strictly from the natural colors and grains of various wood types. No staining or painting is involved, only an oil finish is used to ensure the beauty as the wood ages. Wood burning is used for small details such as the scales of a fish or turtle, etc. Each piece of artwork is stamped on the back with our Le Family logo.
*Please note that this is a one-of-a-kind piece of art. The shape and workmanship are exactly as shown here but because of the different grains and shapes in the exotic woods employed, there will always be some variation in color.
