The Hawaiian green sea turtle or honu, is an endangered species. It lives close to shore on all the Hawaiian Islands and is seen and enjoyed by thousands of divers and snorkelers. The reverence for the honu by the ancient Hawaiians is depicted in petroglyphs (rock carvings) seen on the Islands. The honu petroglyph is also a very popular theme in Hawaiian print fabrics. The lines on the turtle’s shell are created with powder from ash wood which is inlayed into grooves that are cut in the rosewood shell. Notice the intricacy of the wood burning that is used to create scales on its fins.
We offer this design in a medium or large wall hanging, as an ornament or a magnet. While smaller in size, our ornaments and magnets are created with the same details and quality craftsmanship as the larger sizes.
Decorate your home or office during the holidays, on special occasions or all year round. Our unique artwork will brighten and complement any space, multiple pieces may be grouped together to create various themes.
Each piece of wood is meticulously hand contoured and carefully assembled to create multi-dimensional artwork. The beauty and uniqueness of our artwork comes strictly from the natural colors and grains of various wood types. No staining or painting is involved, only an oil finish is used to ensure the beauty as the wood ages. Wood burning is used for small details such as the scales of a fish or turtle, etc. Each piece of artwork is stamped on the back with our Le Family logo.
*Please note that this is a one-of-a-kind piece of art. The shape and workmanship are exactly as shown here but because of the different grains and shapes in the exotic woods employed, there will always be some variation in color.
